Question 2. When did you start your CAT 2023 Preparation? What is the ideal time to complete the CAT syllabus before the exam?
Completing the CAT syllabus 5-6 months before the exam allows ample time for rigorous mock practice, refining strategies, and managing stress effectively, ensuring a confident and well-prepared approach on exam day.
Question 3. What was your overall preparation strategy for CAT 2023?
I initiated my preparation with a mock test to grasp the exam structure, then devised a study schedule. My focus was on fortifying the basics of quantitative techniques, logical reasoning, grammar, and vocabulary. Beginning with mastering core principles, I progressively ventured into more intricate topics as part of my learning process.
Question 4. Was there any particular section/area that you were weak at? How did you overcome this challenge? What strategies did you adopt to master that section?
As an Engineering graduate, I found the VARC section particularly challenging. To overcome this hurdle, I opted for coaching programs such as Time, where I engaged in mock tests and online video lectures to improve my skills in this specific section.
Question 5. Tell us something about yourself, your family, and your interests beyond academics.
As a working individual, surrounded by a family of engineers and doctors, I received unwavering support for my MBA pursuit. Apart from academics, my solace lies in reading books, which serve as a means of relaxation and stress relief for me.
Question 6. Were you a part of any coaching institute? Is coaching necessary to ace CAT?
Attending weekend classes at T.I.M.E institute, I believe coaching isn't indispensable but plays a pivotal role in guiding you toward the correct path. Having an experienced mentor at the outset of preparation significantly expedites understanding and grasping concepts compared to studying alone.
Question 7. Is there any particular book or study material that helped you gain an edge over other candidates?
To enhance my reading speed and comprehension, I immersed myself in various materials like Aeon essays, The Hindu newspaper, and fiction novels like Harry Potter and Game of Thrones. As an Engineering graduate, the VARC section presented a substantial obstacle, prompting me to join coaching programs such as Time, where I utilized mock tests and online video lectures to tackle this area of weakness.
Question 8. How can an aspirant avoid negative marking?
Attempt a question you are reasonably sure about. One should focus on accuracy rather than attempting every question.
If unsure, use educated guess by eliminating obvious incorrect choices or by applying some logic.
Question 9. What role did Mocks play in your success? How many mocks did you attempt before the exam?
I undertook approximately 45-50 mock tests ahead of CAT. These simulations in CAT were invaluable, helping me get accustomed to the exam structure, fine-tune time management, recognize strengths and weaknesses, refine strategies, and build confidence through consistent practice and review. They're crucial in evaluating readiness, facilitating focused enhancements, and offering a live assessment of preparedness for the CAT exam. Post-mock analysis, spending time reflecting on errors, understanding weaknesses, and strategizing for improvement proved instrumental in rectifying mistakes and preventing similar ones in subsequent attempts.
