Some of the questions and their solutions from NCERT Solutions for Class 11: Probability, are as follows:

Q. A coin is tossed three times.

Sol. We know that sample space means a set of all possible events occurring in an experiment. If a coin is tossed three times, then possible outcomes are

{HHH, HHT, HTT, THH, THT, HTH, TTH, TTT}

Where, H represents head 4 T represents tail

Hence, sample space

S = {HHH, HHT, HTT, THH, THT, HTH, TTH, TTT}

Q. A coin is tossed and a die is thrown. In coin, H and T occur and in die, a number from 1 to 6 may occur.

Sol. The sample space

S = (H1, H2, H3, H4, H5, H6, T1, T2, T3, T4, T5, T6}

where, H and T represent the head and tail of a coin.

Q. A coin is tossed and then a die is rolled only in a case a head is shown on the coin.

Sol. The sample space S is S = (H1, H2 H3, H4, H5, H6}

where, H represents a head of a coin.

Q. Suppose 3 bulbs are selected at random from a lot. Each bulb is tested and classified as defective (D) or non-defective (N). Write the sample space of this experiment.

Sol. Let D represents defective and N represents non-defective.
Then, the sample space is

S = {DDD, DDN, DND, DNN, NDD, NDN, NND, NNN}
